VOLTA Project Visitors 2022

We had a wonderful time hosting VOLTA visitors for their secondments. It was a great learning experience for Geoimaging team while we exchanged knowledge in the geospatial field. We had Anne Ponick from Leibniz Universitaet in Hannover, Germany, Anna Iglseder from Technische Universitaet in Wien, Austria and last but not least Małgorzata Krówczyńska and Ewa Wilk from Uniwersytet Warszawski, Poland.

During their stay, Anne worked on classifying an image-based point cloud of an urban area in Cyprus with Neural Networks trained on areas in Central Europe. Anna from Austria built her work based on the results of Anne from Hannover. She tried to improve Anne’s segmentation results, by including a preliminary step to the process; she used a semantic geometry-based approach to split ground points from above-ground points.

Małgorzata Krówczyńska and Ewa collected in-situ asbestos samples from different cities in Cyprus and applied their pre-trained models on datasets acquired in Cyprus in order to detect asbestos roofs in Cyprus and compare their results with those in Poland.

It was a great pleasure hosting all of you! Hope to see you again soon!
