Laser scanning and 3D documentation of an old building, in Nicosia
An old apartment-building in Old Nicosia city centre, which was built during the 1950’s decade, has been used as residential houses for many decades, but since then, this building has never been repaired or renovated, and now these apartments are considered inhabitable.
In order to renovate the existing building, refurbishment and repair operations had to be provided. In this way, the old construction would be transformed into modern apartments.

In the starting point of this kind of renovation projects, it is critical to have a detailed measured building survey carried out in order to accurate document the existing condition of the building. This as-built information is then given to architects and interior designers in order to redesign and plan their renovation ideas.
Thus, Geoimaging team was asked to provide a 3D documentation survey based on 3D laser scanning technology in order to draft accurate and detailed as-built floor plans, elevations, and sections.
The on-site laser measurements were carried out by our experienced personnel and lasted only two days. Data collected from 166 different scan locations in total. Then, the acquired data were processed properly in the office in order to produce a 3D point cloud which resulted by unifying the multiple scans. Once the point cloud data was processed, final deliverables; 2D plans, elevations, and sections were readily extracted and given to the architect to plan, redesign and approve with actual measurements the refurbishment of the building.
