SCOLIO-SEE is the new technology for helping physicians in the diagnosis and monitoring of scoliosis.
SCOLIO-SEE is a software and hardware system, aimed at providing physicians with new objective data and new insights for the diagnosis and monitoring of scoliosis of each patient. To this end, a database will be created gathering radiographic, surface topography measurements and clinical parameters, for a minimum of 150 patients with different kind of scoliosis and severities.
SCOLIO-SEE will generate for each patient, a bijective model from 2D to 3D, linking the internal deformation of the spine to the external surface deformation, by combining image from back surface and the X-ray taken in the first visit. This matching between internal and external deformation should allow monitoring the evolution of the spinal curvature after each treatment, and only by analyzing changes of the surface of the back.
The SCOLIO-SEE database will be doubly exploit, as an artificial neural network (ANN) will be built from it, with objective to improve Cobb angle estimation and prediction, and extract new observations for the diagnostic of scoliosis.
Finally, as a direct consequence, SCOLIO-SEE should reduce the number of X-Rays, normally needed during a full treatment and hazardous to health.
SCOLIO-SEE technology is expected to have significant overall impact on the competitiveness of European SMEs in the medical engineering and equipment industry, the safety and affordability of medical tools used by European doctors and the health of the children being treated for scoliosis.
